Marrakech Nightlife: Best Bars, Clubs & Things to Do at Night

Marrakech nightlife can surprise first-time visitors.
During the day, Marrakech is all Medina lanes, palaces, gardens, souks and cafés. After sunset, the mood changes. Jemaa el-Fna becomes busier, rooftop terraces fill up, live music starts, restaurants turn into dinner shows, and the bars and clubs of Hivernage and Gueliz come alive.
I’m Kamal, a licensed Moroccan tour guide based in Marrakech, and my first advice is not to think of nightlife here as one single scene.
A couple wanting sunset drinks should plan a very different evening from friends who want to dance until late. Someone in their 50s may prefer cocktails, dinner and live music, while a traveler who does not drink alcohol can still have one of the best evenings of the trip in the Medina.
That variety is what makes Marrakech after dark interesting.

Is Marrakech Good for Nightlife?

Yes. Marrakech has a good nightlife scene, but it does not work like cities where all the bars and clubs are concentrated on one street.
The experience changes depending on where you go.
Hivernage is the main area for upscale restaurants, lounges, dinner shows and nightclubs.
Gueliz is better for modern restaurants, cocktail bars and a more relaxed urban evening.
The Medina is where I would go for rooftops, dinner, tea, music and the atmosphere around Jemaa el-Fna.
Agdal and Boulevard Mohammed VI have some larger nightlife venues, but you will normally need transport.
For many visitors, the best Marrakech night combines two sides of the city.
Start with sunset or dinner in the Medina, then move to Hivernage later if you want cocktails, entertainment or dancing.

Best Areas for Nightlife in Marrakech

Hivernage

If someone asks me where to go for a proper night out in Marrakech, Hivernage is usually the easiest answer.
This modern district just outside the Medina contains many of the city’s established nightlife names, including Theatro, L’Épicurien, So Lounge, Comptoir Darna, Palais Jad Mahal and Babouchka.
The main advantage is convenience.
You can have dinner, move somewhere for drinks and finish the night dancing without crossing Marrakech several times.
Hivernage is the area I normally recommend to travelers who want something polished, lively and easy to organize.
It also works well for couples and groups because you are not committed to one kind of nightlife. You can have a quiet dinner, watch a show, sit in a lounge or stay out late in a nightclub.

Gueliz

Gueliz feels more modern and less theatrical.
There are contemporary restaurants, cafés and cocktail bars, and the atmosphere can feel closer to a night out in a modern European city than an evening inside the old Medina.
Baromètre is one of the best examples. It focuses on cocktails, mixology, food and atmosphere rather than a huge dance floor.
Gueliz works especially well for couples and small groups who want dinner and drinks without necessarily ending the night in a nightclub.
It is also a good area to consider when someone tells me, “I want to go out, but I don’t want a crazy party.”

The Medina

The Medina gives you a completely different Marrakech nightlife experience.
This is where I would spend at least one evening even if you plan to go clubbing another night.
Watch the sunset from a rooftop, walk through Jemaa el-Fna, have dinner, listen to music, drink mint tea and wander through streets that feel completely different after dark.
Some Medina rooftops serve alcohol and others do not, so never assume that every fashionable rooftop is also a bar.

Agdal and Boulevard Mohammed VI

Agdal is farther south, and nightlife here is more spread out.
One of the major late-night names is 555 Famous Club on Boulevard Mohammed VI.
If you are staying inside the Medina, I would plan a taxi or private transfer rather than treating Agdal as somewhere you can comfortably walk to and from late at night.

Local tip: If you are staying in the Medina, Hivernage is usually a short taxi ride away, while Agdal and the Ourika Road venues require a little more planning.

Kabana – Best for a Lively Medina Rooftop

Kabana is a good choice when you want the Medina atmosphere without ending the evening immediately after dinner.
It combines a rooftop setting with food, cocktails, music and views toward the Koutoubia.
The atmosphere becomes livelier as the evening develops, which makes it a good option for couples or groups who want sunset drinks to lead naturally into a more festive night.
I like Kabana because you can still feel that you are close to the old city rather than being inside an international-style hotel bar.
Best for: sunset drinks, friends, couples and a lively rooftop.

La Pergola – Best for Jazz

La Pergola at Riad Monceau has a completely different feeling.
Instead of nightclub energy, think rooftop cocktails, dinner and live jazz close to Jemaa el-Fna.
This is one of the places I would consider for travelers who want music but still want to sit, talk and enjoy the evening.
It works especially well for couples, travelers over 40 and anyone who wants a more relaxed Marrakech nightlife experience.
Best for: jazz, couples and conversation.

Nobu Rooftop Garden – Best for Luxury

Nobu Rooftop Garden is for a different budget and mood.
The rooftop at Nobu Hotel Marrakech combines views over the city with dining, drinks and a polished hotel atmosphere.
I would choose it for a special occasion, date night or stylish sunset drink.
It is not where I would send someone trying to have a cheap night out, but if you want luxury, this is the type of place to consider.
Best for: luxury, couples and special occasions.

Baromètre – Best for Serious Cocktails

If someone tells me, “I don’t want a nightclub; I just want a very good cocktail,” Baromètre is one of the first places I would consider.
Located in Gueliz, it feels much more like a proper cocktail bar than a tourist rooftop or dinner show.
The focus is on mixology, food and atmosphere.
That makes it a good choice for a date, drinks before dinner or a small group that wants to talk rather than shout over nightclub music.
Best for: cocktails, couples and small groups.

L’Épicurien – Best for Dinner That Turns Into a Party

L’Épicurien at Es Saadi works well when half your group wants dinner and the other half wants nightlife.
The evening can begin with food and live music before becoming much more festive later.
I would consider it for birthdays, celebrations and groups who like live entertainment but are not ready to jump immediately into a pure nightclub.
Best for: groups, celebrations and live music.

So Lounge – Best for Staying in One Place All Night

So Lounge at Sofitel Marrakech combines several parts of a night out in one venue.
You can have dinner and cocktails, enjoy live entertainment and continue later with DJs and dancing.
This works well when you do not want to spend the night moving from restaurant to bar to club.
Best for: dinner, entertainment, cocktails and dancing.

Theatro – Best All-Round Nightclub

If someone specifically asks me for a real nightclub in Marrakech, Theatro is one of the first names I would mention.
Located at Es Saadi Marrakech Resort in Hivernage, it has been part of the city’s nightlife scene for years.
Expect DJs, lighting, performances and a proper late-night atmosphere.
I would not plan to begin your evening here.
Have dinner first, perhaps stop somewhere for drinks, and treat Theatro as the final part of your night.
Best for: DJs, dancing and a late finish.

Babouchka – Best for a Stylish Club Night

Babouchka is another Hivernage choice for visitors specifically looking for a fashionable late-night club.
The atmosphere is centered around DJs, house music and a stylish crowd.
This is the kind of place where I would arrive properly dressed rather than coming directly from a long day of sightseeing.
Best for: stylish groups, DJs and electronic music.

555 Famous Club – Best for a Big Club Experience

555 Famous Club is farther south in Agdal and feels more like a large-scale nightclub.
It is a better match for groups who specifically want to party than for someone who simply wants one quiet drink.
If this is your choice for the night, plan your transport because it is farther from the Medina than the Hivernage venues.
Best for: groups, DJs and a big club night.

Best Dinner Shows in Marrakech

Dinner shows are an important part of Marrakech nightlife.
They sit somewhere between going out for a restaurant meal and spending the night in a club.
They work particularly well for couples, groups, celebrations and travelers who want entertainment without dancing until the early morning.

Comptoir Darna

Comptoir Darna is one of the best-known dinner-show venues in Hivernage.
The evening combines food with Moroccan-inspired entertainment, music and a later nightlife atmosphere.
It is a useful choice when you want dinner to be part of the evening rather than simply something you do before going somewhere else.
I would reserve ahead, especially for weekends and busy travel periods.
Best for: couples, celebrations and first-time visitors.

Palais Jad Mahal – Best for a Glamorous Dinner Show

Palais Jad Mahal is another established Hivernage nightlife venue and gives you a more glamorous, theatrical evening.
The experience combines dinner with live music and staged entertainment, so this is not somewhere I would choose for a quiet romantic meal.
Go because you want the entertainment to be part of the night.
I would consider Palais Jad Mahal for couples, groups or travelers celebrating a birthday, anniversary or another special occasion.
Dress smartly rather than arriving in sightseeing clothes.
Best for: celebrations, couples, live entertainment and a glamorous evening.

Dar Soukkar – Best for a Large-Scale Show

Dar Soukkar offers a bigger theatrical experience outside the main central nightlife districts.
It is located on the Ourika road and combines dinner with a long evening show.
Because it is farther away from the Medina and Hivernage, organize your return transport before you go.
I would choose Dar Soukkar for a group that wants a full dinner-show experience rather than a simple restaurant meal.
Best for: groups, celebrations and large-scale entertainment.

Things to Do in Marrakech at Night Without Alcohol

You absolutely do not need alcohol to enjoy Marrakech after dark.
One mistake visitors make is assuming that “nightlife” must mean bars and clubs.
Some of my favorite evenings in Marrakech involve neither.

See Jemaa el-Fna After Sunset

For a first trip, I would definitely spend one evening around Jemaa el-Fna.
Go around sunset and watch the square change.
Food stalls appear, smoke rises from grills, musicians and performers gather, and the whole area becomes much busier than it was during the morning.
You can watch everything from a rooftop first, then walk through the square and surrounding Medina streets.
This is completely different from Hivernage nightlife, but it is just as much a part of Marrakech after dark.

Café Clock – Best for Moroccan Culture

Café Clock in the Kasbah is a good alternative when you want an evening built around culture instead of drinking.
It is more than a café.
Music, cultural activities and Moroccan storytelling give visitors something to experience while eating or drinking tea.
I particularly like this kind of evening for solo travelers because you are not simply sitting alone at a bar.
Best for: solo travelers, Moroccan culture and music.

NOMAD – Best for an Alcohol-Free Rooftop Dinner

NOMAD near Rahba Kedima is another good option when you want a stylish evening without alcohol.
Come for dinner, the rooftop atmosphere and the Medina setting rather than expecting a conventional bar.
This is also a good reminder that a beautiful Marrakech rooftop does not automatically mean cocktails and wine.
Best for: couples, dinner and alcohol-free evenings.

Can You Drink Alcohol in Marrakech?

Yes.
Alcohol is available in many licensed hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in Marrakech.
But Marrakech is not a resort where alcohol is served everywhere.
Many very good restaurants and rooftops do not serve it at all.
The important thing is to enjoy alcohol inside licensed premises rather than drinking in the street.
If wine or cocktails are important to your evening plans, check the venue before booking instead of assuming.
This is particularly useful inside the Medina, where two similar-looking rooftop restaurants may have completely different alcohol policies.

How Much Does Marrakech Nightlife Cost?

There is no single nightlife budget for Marrakech.
A meal and mint tea in the Medina can be relatively inexpensive.
A night involving cocktails, a luxury restaurant, dinner show and nightclub can become expensive very quickly.
At modern rooftop bars, cocktail prices can easily reach around the price you would expect at an upscale European venue.
Dinner shows are normally considerably more expensive than a simple restaurant meal because you are paying for both food and entertainment.
Nightclub spending varies even more.
Paying for entry and drinks is one thing. Reserving bottles or a VIP table can put you in a completely different price range.
My advice is to decide which part of the night matters most.
If you want a beautiful rooftop and dinner, spend your money there.
If clubbing is the priority, eat somewhere simpler first.
Trying to do a luxury rooftop, expensive dinner show, several cocktails and a VIP table in one evening is when visitors can end up spending much more than they expected.

What Time Does Marrakech Nightlife Start?

Marrakech evenings usually develop slowly.
For most visitors, I would think about the night in four stages:
Around sunset: rooftop or Jemaa el-Fna
8:00–10:00 p.m.: dinner
10:00 p.m.–midnight: live music, lounge or dinner show
After midnight: nightclub
You do not have to follow that schedule exactly.
The important point is that serious clubs are normally the final part of the night, not the first stop.
If you arrive at a major Marrakech nightclub very early, do not be surprised if the atmosphere has not really started.

What to Wear for Marrakech Nightlife

What you should wear depends on where you are going.
For ordinary Medina restaurants and casual rooftops, smart-casual clothing is usually enough.
For luxury rooftops, Hivernage dinner shows and nightclubs, I recommend dressing one level better than you would for sightseeing.
For men, long trousers, clean shoes and a shirt or smart top are the safest combination.
For women, dresses, smart trousers, jumpsuits and other normal evening outfits are common in modern nightlife venues.
You do not need to dress the same way for mint tea in the Medina as you would for Theatro or Palais Jad Mahal.
The easiest rule is:
If the venue looks upscale, dress smart.
And remember that even if the dress code inside a nightclub feels international, you are still in Morocco when you leave the venue and walk or take a taxi home.

Marrakech Nightlife for Singles and Solo Travelers

Marrakech can be enjoyable for singles and solo travelers, but I would choose the venue according to your personality instead of automatically picking the biggest nightclub. Live jazz at La Pergola, a cultural evening at Café Clock, a lively rooftop or a cocktail bar in Gueliz can feel more natural alone because something is happening around you. If you specifically want clubbing, Hivernage is convenient because several major nightlife venues are concentrated in the same general district. For solo women, keep control of your transport, phone and drink just as you would in any unfamiliar city at night. Marrakech Nightlife for Travelers Over 40

Nightlife in Marrakech is definitely not only for people in their twenties.
If I were planning an evening for travelers in their 40s, 50s or 60s who wanted atmosphere without a huge nightclub, I would look first at places such as La Pergola, Baromètre, Nobu Rooftop, Comptoir Darna or Palais Jad Mahal.
A rooftop at sunset, a good dinner, live jazz and cocktails can make a much better evening than choosing somewhere simply because an online list calls it the “best club in Marrakech.”
Your age matters much less than the kind of atmosphere you enjoy.

Is Marrakech Safe at Night?

Most nightlife problems can be avoided with a little planning.
Know how you are getting home before you start drinking.
If your accommodation is deep inside the Medina, remember that a taxi may not be able to drive directly to your riad door.
Ask your riad which nearby drop-off point they recommend late at night.
Keep your phone charged and carry some Moroccan dirhams for taxis and small expenses.

Do not leave your drink unattended, and be careful about accepting drinks from strangers.
Most importantly, if a taxi, bill, invitation or situation makes you uncomfortable, leave.

Marrakech Nightlife During Ramadan

Marrakech does not become quiet after sunset during Ramadan.
In many neighborhoods, the opposite happens.
After iftar, families go out, cafés fill up, shops become busy again and the streets can have a wonderful evening atmosphere.
But conventional nightlife becomes less predictable.
Some clubs, bars and alcohol-serving venues reduce their schedules, change their programmes or close temporarily during Ramadan.
That is why I would never plan an important Ramadan club night based only on normal opening hours.
Check directly with the venue close to your date.
And remember that Ramadan is also an opportunity to experience a completely different kind of Marrakech evening built around food, family, cafés, shopping and community.

Marrakech Nightlife Dos and Don’ts

Do decide what kind of evening you want before choosing a venue.
Do reserve popular rooftops and dinner shows when Marrakech is busy.
Do check a nightclub’s latest programme if you are going for a particular DJ or event.
Do dress smartly for upscale Hivernage venues.
Do organize your transport home before a late night.
Do keep some cash available for taxis and small expenses.
Don’t assume every rooftop serves alcohol.
Don’t drink alcohol in the street.
Don’t expect a serious nightclub to be busy early in the evening.
Don’t accept a VIP table without understanding the price or minimum spend.
Don’t spend every evening inside international-style clubs. Marrakech after dark has much more to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Marrakech Nightlife

My Local Advice

Do not try to copy someone else’s idea of the perfect Marrakech night.
If you love clubbing, go clubbing.
If you prefer a beautiful rooftop and a good dinner, stop there.
And if you do not drink at all, you are not missing Marrakech nightlife.
An evening walking through Jemaa el-Fna, eating in the Medina and listening to Moroccan music can be more memorable than any nightclub.
For a first visit, I would experience both sides.
Give yourself one night in the Medina after sunset, when Marrakech feels alive in its own way.
Then, if you want to see the modern side of the city, spend another evening in Gueliz or Hivernage.
That contrast is what makes Marrakech after dark worth experiencing.
