A Local Guide, Not a Distant Travel Writer
Salam!, I’m Kamal El Otmani. I’m a licensed Moroccan tour guide based in Marrakech, and I created Morocco Tips to help travelers understand my country before they arrive.
I have been guiding visitors across Morocco since 2006. I became an officially licensed guide after passing Morocco’s national guide examination in Rabat in 2018, and my background in geography still shapes the way I explain landscapes, routes, cities and the long distances between them.
Most of the questions answered on Morocco Tips began as real conversations: at a riad in Marrakech, on a road through the Atlas Mountains, beside the dunes in the Sahara, or over mint tea after a day in the medina.
I want you to arrive informed, confident and ready to enjoy Morocco.
Where my Morocco story began
From Tinghir to Every Corner of Morocco
I was born in Tinghir in southeastern Morocco, close to oasis valleys, old kasbahs, dramatic gorges and the roads that continue toward the Sahara.
Growing up there gave me a deep connection to Morocco’s landscapes and traditions. Later, working as a driver-guide and licensed guide took me from Casablanca to Tangier, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes and Fes, then south through the Draa Valley, Ouarzazate, the High Atlas Mountains and the desert.
That experience taught me something important: the best trip is rarely the one with the most stops. It is the one with the right pace, the right route and enough time to feel where you are.

To Make Morocco Easier to Understand
Many travelers arrive with advice that sounds simple online but becomes confusing on the ground. Distances are longer than they appear. Desert tours are not all the same. A beautiful riad may be difficult to reach with heavy luggage. Weather can change completely between the coast, the mountains and the Sahara.
I created Morocco Tips to explain those details clearly and complement the practical destination information available from the Moroccan National Tourist Office. My goal is not to make Morocco sound perfect. It is to help you understand the country well enough to enjoy it with confidence.
