How to Get to Merzouga
If you’re dreaming about reaching the golden dunes of Merzouga, don’t worry getting here is much easier than it looks on the map. Merzouga sits in southeast Morocco, close to the Erg Chebbi dunes, and travelers usually arrive from Marrakech, Fes, Ouarzazate, or Errachidia.
Here is the easiest and most comfortable way to reach the desert.
✈️ 1. Fly to Errachidia (The Fastest & Easiest Way)
If you want the smoothest trip, fly directly to Errachidia Airport (ERH).
From here, Merzouga is only 2 hours by road.
Most travelers choose:

This option is perfect if you want to avoid long driving hours from Marrakech or Fes.
Tip: Flights from Casablanca to Errachidia are usually the best connection.

The road from Marrakech to Merzouga is long but one of the most beautiful in Morocco.
You’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains, pass Ait Ben Haddou, drive through Dades Valley, and finish at the desert dunes.

The best time to visit is March to May and September to November, when temperatures are warm but comfortable for camel rides and dune walks. Summers can reach over 45°C, but sunsets are magical with a soft desert breeze. Winters are sunny during the day but cold at night, so bring warm layers.
