Marrakech to Essaouira by bus guide showing a Supratours coach

Marrakech to Essaouira by Bus: Supratours, CTM & Tickets

Traveling from Marrakech to Essaouira by bus is a practical choice if you want to reach the coast independently without renting a car. Supratours and CTM are the two companies I would compare first. Allow roughly three hours on the coach, then add time for getting to the departure station, checking luggage and reaching your accommodation.

I’m Kamal, a licensed Moroccan tour guide based in Marrakech. My advice for this journey is simple: choose the station as carefully as the departure time. A cheaper ticket is less useful if you arrive at the wrong terminal or need an extra taxi you did not budget for.

This guide covers the journey, booking and arrival. If you are deciding whether to go there and back in one day, read my Essaouira day trip from Marrakech guide for sightseeing and timing.

Quick Answer: Which Bus Should You Choose?

I would compare Supratours first for a stay in Essaouira’s Medina, then check CTM against your preferred time, final price and arrival point. Supratours has a convenient arrival near Bab Marrakech. CTM has a separate Essaouira agency, so check the onward journey before paying.

Supratours or CTM: What Actually Matters?

For a first visit, I would make the decision around the whole journey rather than the logo. Look at how you will leave your Marrakech riad, where the coach arrives in Essaouira and how much luggage you are carrying.

CompanyWhat to check
SupratoursMarrakech departure beside the railway-station area; Essaouira arrival near Bab Marrakech. Confirm the exact pins on your ticket.
CTMIts own agencies and boarding instructions. Do not go to the Supratours terminal with a CTM ticket.
Other operatorsExact station, luggage policy, recent reviews and what the fare includes. Do not assume every listing offers the same service.

I would not choose a departure simply because a blog says it is the “best bus.” A slightly later service may be much easier if your accommodation is deep inside the Medina. Families should also compare the total cost for everyone with a private transfer.

How Much Does the Marrakech to Essaouira Bus Cost?

Recent 12Go route listings have shown Supratours around US$12 and CTM around US$14–16 per person one way. These are examples, not a fixed tariff: your date, service, currency and booking charges can change the total.

Compare those quotes with the operator’s own booking channel. Check whether luggage is included, whether any optional extras have been selected and whether the quoted amount covers one traveler or your whole group.

My practical rule: add the coach ticket, any hold-luggage charge and transport at both ends before deciding what is cheapest. Keep some dirhams for small payments at the station.

How to Book Marrakech to Essaouira by Bus

  • Choose the travel date and direction. Marrakech–Essaouira and Essaouira–Marrakech are separate searches.
  • Compare departure time, operator and both station names. Open the boarding instructions before paying.
  • Check the final price, luggage conditions and cancellation or change rules.
  • Enter passenger details accurately, then save the confirmation and actual ticket offline.
  • For an essential return or a weekend trip, reserve ahead rather than assuming the next coach will have seats.

You can check available bus tickets through 12Go, or compare directly with Supratours and CTM. If one website has a payment problem, try another official booking channel or the operator’s ticket office. Check whether you were charged before buying a second ticket.

A reservation email and a boarding ticket are not always the same document. Follow the instructions supplied by the seller. CTM’s official FAQ says its own e-ticket does not need printing; check the instructions separately for other sellers and operators.

Where Do the Buses Leave From in Marrakech?

Supratours: the Marrakech terminal is beside the railway-station area on Avenue Hassan II. Tell your taxi driver “Supratours,” and show the ticket or map pin. You are taking a coach, so do not wait inside the railway station for a train platform.

Look for the Supratours terminal, rather than waiting inside the railway station.

CTM: its official agency directory lists Marrakech at Boulevard Aboubaker Seddik and Zineb Nefzaouia. Use the precise departure instructions attached to your service rather than asking for an unspecified bus station.

Use the exact boarding address on your CTM ticket.

If you are staying in a Medina riad, ask reception where a taxi can collect you. Allow for the walk to that meeting point as well as the drive. Leaving your room 30 minutes before departure is not the same as reaching the terminal 30 minutes early.

Luggage Charges and Boarding: Leave Time for Both

Do not assume a suitcase is included because you already paid online. Ask where to register hold luggage, pay any charge through the operator and keep the receipt or matching tag. Keep your passport, money, phone and medication in your day bag.

CTM’s published conditions require arrival at least 30 minutes before departure with hold luggage, or 15 minutes without it. They allow two hold bags, each up to 20 kg, subject to size limits and paid baggage rules. Its FAQ quotes baggage from 5 MAD; confirm the charge for your bags.

For Supratours, check the baggage instructions on your booking and ask staff before boarding. I would not promise a universal baggage fee. Large suitcases, surfboards and unusual equipment deserve a direct question before you buy the passenger ticket.

My preference is to reach either terminal 30–45 minutes early. That leaves time to find the correct coach, sort luggage and use the facilities without rushing.

Marrakech to Essaouira by Bus: What to Expect

Plan around a three-hour coach journey rather than an exact arrival minute. Traffic leaving Marrakech, stops and delays can change it. Bring water, a small snack, a light layer and anything you need to stay comfortable.

Do not rely on working Wi-Fi, a charging socket or an onboard toilet unless your specific service confirms them. If the coach stops for a break, check the driver’s return time and stay close enough to hear boarding instructions.

This is a scheduled transport journey. It is not a sightseeing excursion with visits to cooperatives or photo stops. For a broader comparison of buses, trains and driving, use my Morocco transportation guide.

Where Do You Arrive in Essaouira?

Supratours arrives near Bab Marrakech, convenient for the Medina. CTM’s official directory gives its Essaouira agency as Place 11 Janvier, Lot Azlif. These are different locations: ask your accommodation how to reach it from the arrival point printed on your ticket.

Save your riad’s location and contact details offline before leaving Marrakech. A bus ticket to Essaouira is not a transfer to your room. Check whether the last part involves walking, a taxi or stairs, especially with large luggage or children.

For your stay and sightseeing plans, continue with my Essaouira travel guide. Keep that planning separate from your transport decision: first get the correct ticket, then build your time in the town around it.

Return Tickets and Marrakech Airport Connections

If you must return on a particular day, check that journey before confirming the outbound ticket. Do not assume the last return bus fits a day trip, and do not copy the outbound times for the opposite direction.

For a flight from Marrakech, you still need to travel from the bus terminal to the airport. Leave a generous margin for both journeys, airline check-in and delays. For an early flight, I would usually sleep in Marrakech the night before. My Marrakech airport transfer guide explains the airport part.

If your plans may change, read the terms before booking. CTM distinguishes ordinary tickets from its Flex option; reimbursement under Flex is in vouchers and subject to deadlines. A third-party seller can also have its own rules. Do not assume “changeable” means a cash refund.

When Would I Choose a Private Transfer Instead?

I would compare a private transfer for a family carrying several bags, travelers who need help with mobility, or a group whose flight timing does not fit the coach timetable. Ask for the total vehicle price, luggage capacity and exact pickup and drop-off points.

For one or two people with flexible timing, the coach is worth comparing first. Renting a car only for this journey may add parking and pickup work you do not need. If Essaouira is one stop on a longer road trip, my car rental guide helps with that wider decision.

Common Questions About the Marrakech–Essaouira Bus

Is there a direct train from Marrakech to Essaouira?

No. Choose road transport for this leg. A search result associated with ONCF or Supratours does not mean the journey is by rail.

Can I do a day trip by bus?

Possibly, if the live outbound and return times leave enough time in town. Compare the full day before booking. My day-trip guide explains whether that pace suits you.

Is luggage always included?

No. Check your ticket conditions and leave time to register hold bags. Keep small cash available rather than assuming an online purchase covers every station charge.

Do the buses leave from Marrakech Airport?

Do not assume that. The coach stations described here are in the city. If arriving by air, budget time for airport formalities, transport to the terminal and boarding.

What should I check before paying?

The date, direction, operator, station pins, luggage allowance, final total and ticket conditions. Those details matter more than finding the lowest headline price.

My Local Advice Before You Go

Traveling from Marrakech to Essaouira by bus is straightforward when you plan the small details. Choose a sensible departure, save your ticket offline and send the station pin to your riad before the travel day. Leave enough time to reach the terminal and register your luggage, then enjoy the change from Marrakech to the Atlantic coast.
