Casablanca to Tangier: Train, Tickets, Bus & Car Guide
For most travelers, the best way to travel from Casablanca to Tangier is the Al Boraq high-speed train. It connects Casa Voyageurs with Tanger Ville in a little over two hours, making this one of Morocco’s easiest journeys between major cities.
I’m Kamal, a licensed Moroccan tour guide based in Marrakech. I have guided travelers across Morocco since 2006, and I would usually recommend the train here when you simply want to reach Tangier.
The details that deserve planning are your journey to the station, the ticket you buy and how you will reach your accommodation after arrival. Starting at Mohammed V Airport adds another transport stage.
Here is how I would choose between the train, bus, car and flight, and plan the journey without rushing.

Casablanca to Tangier: Quick Answer
For most travelers going between the two cities, take the Al Boraq high-speed train from Casa Voyageurs to Tanger Ville. Allow about 2 hours 10–20 minutes on the train, depending on the departure, plus time to reach the station and continue to your hotel.
Book through ONCF Voyages and check the fare for your date and class. If you are starting at Casablanca Airport, you will need an airport train connection through Casa Voyageurs; the two-hour Al Boraq journey does not include that first leg. You can also compare current train and bus options on 12Go; confirm the operator, station and ticket conditions before booking.
Choose a car or private transfer when you want sightseeing stops, need a vehicle for a wider trip or prefer one ride from your pickup address to your destination.
Which Transport Should You Choose?
Planning time: About 2h10–20 on board
Best fit: A direct city-to-city journey
Planning time: Roughly 5–6h; check departure
Best fit: A useful fare or timetable alternative
Planning time: About 3.5–4.5h without sightseeing
Best fit: A wider road trip
Planning time: Similar road time, traffic-dependent
Best fit: Door-to-door travel and luggage
Planning time: Compare the full airport journey
Best fit: A suitable onward air connection
These are planning estimates, not guaranteed arrival times. Bus journeys may take longer, and airport transfers are additional. Compare actual tickets and pickup addresses before choosing.
For routes beyond these two cities, my Morocco Transportation Guide explains where trains, buses and cars make the most sense.
Casablanca to Tangier by Train

Al Boraq is the direct high-speed service between Casablanca and Tangier. Its main corridor includes Casa Voyageurs, Rabat Agdal, Kenitra and Tanger Ville.
For a simple transfer, this is usually the easiest option. You can sit down, keep your travel day predictable and arrive without finding parking in another city.
The journey is fast, but it is still station to station. Add your Casablanca hotel transfer, time before boarding and the trip from Tanger Ville to your accommodation when comparing it with a private vehicle.
Which Casablanca Station Do You Need?

Use Casa Voyageurs for the direct Al Boraq departure to Tangier. You may also see it written as Casa-Voyageurs.
Casa-Port is a different station. If your hotel is beside Casa-Port or in the Old Medina, arrange your journey to Casa Voyageurs before departure.
Tell the taxi driver the complete station name and keep your ticket handy. I would aim to reach the station around 30 minutes before departure, with more time if I needed to buy a ticket or manage several bags. This is my planning advice, not an official boarding deadline.
Once inside, match the departure board with the train number and time on your ticket. The platform is shown as quai, the carriage as voiture and your seat as place. Find your carriage marker before boarding rather than carrying bags through several carriages.
Boarding access closes before the train departs. Follow the deadline on your ticket and the station announcements; do not aim to arrive at the platform at the last minute.
If stairs or heavy bags are a concern, ask station staff for the accessible route before heading to the platform. I would arrange assistance beforehand when it is essential to the journey.
How Long Does the Train Take?
Allow about two hours and ten to twenty minutes for the Al Boraq journey. Your chosen service may have a slightly different scheduled time.
Use the arrival shown by ONCF when booking a tour, hotel pickup or onward connection. A general travel estimate cannot replace your ticket’s timetable.
Casablanca to Tangier Train Schedule
Al Boraq offers frequent daytime departures, commonly with an hourly pattern. Check your date through ONCF rather than relying on a copied list of first and last trains.
Holiday periods, Ramadan and operational changes can affect schedules. If you need an early departure or the last useful train of the day, check it before arranging the rest of your itinerary.
Casablanca to Tangier Train Tickets and Prices
The price to use is the one shown on ONCF Voyages for Casa Voyageurs to Tanger Ville, for your departure, class and fare conditions. I would not budget around a single price copied from a general route page.
ONCF’s YALLA Al Boraq offer advertises limited promotional seats at 89 MAD in second class and 129 MAD in first class. These are advertised offer prices, checked on 3 October 2026, not a live quote or a promise that your departure has that fare. Verify the offer in the booking results.
Before paying, check the exchange and refund conditions shown for your selected ticket on ONCF Voyages. Compare the available fare options carefully, especially if you are connecting from a flight that could arrive late.
There is no single fare that applies to every departure. The price depends on the available offer, class and ticket conditions. Confirm the amount on ONCF for the train you intend to take.
I would compare first and second class for the same train before paying. Also check whether the ticket allows changes or refunds; flexibility can matter more than a small saving when you are arriving on an international flight.
You may find old pages advertising a very low promotional fare. Treat the price displayed for your actual journey on ONCF as the reference. A past promotion does not tell you what your train will cost today.
How to Book
- Open ONCF Voyages.
- Search from Casa Voyageurs to Tanger Ville.
- Choose the date and correct number of passengers.
- Compare available departures, classes and fare conditions.
- Check the stations and journey details before paying.
- Download the ticket so it is available offline.
Use the passenger information requested by the booking system accurately. When traveling together, check your assigned seats rather than assuming separate purchases will put everyone beside each other.
Both first and second class use reserved seats on Al Boraq. ONCF’s reservation guidance says sales open up to three months ahead. If your date is not yet available, check again when it enters the booking window.
The booking system uses French labels such as 1ère classe, 2ème classe, fenêtre (window) and couloir (aisle). Check the carriage and seat details after purchasing.
ONCF introduced online seat selection for Al Boraq, including upper and lower seating areas, subject to availability. If carrying bags upstairs would be difficult, look for a lower-deck seat. Book everyone together and check the available seating before paying.
Station purchase is another option, but I would book beforehand when a particular departure matters. If an online card payment fails, check whether any booking was completed before paying again, then try another payment method or the station counter.
The official operator is ONCF. A commercial booking platform may offer a convenient interface, but compare its final total, fees and change conditions with ONCF before paying.
What If You Miss Your Train?
If your flight or taxi is delayed, check your ticket conditions and contact ONCF as soon as you can. Do not assume the ticket can be used on the next Al Boraq departure.
At the station, ask staff whether you can change the booking or need a new ticket. A later train may also have different availability, so let your Tangier accommodation know if your arrival changes.
First Class or Second Class?
Second class: A practical choice for this short journey, with reserved seats, air-conditioning, seat tables and electrical sockets. I would normally choose it when the saving matters more than extra space.
First class: More spacious reclining seats and individual reading lamps. It is worth comparing for a solo traveler who prefers more personal space or when the upgrade cost is modest. Both classes reach Tangier on the same train.
According to ONCF’s station services information, an Al Boraq first-class ticket also gives access to its passenger lounges, including Casa Voyageurs and Tanger Ville. They offer seating, Wi-Fi, charging points and drinks; confirm access arrangements at the station.
Compare the actual difference in MAD for your departure rather than assuming first class is always only a small percentage more. For a family, suitable departure times and seats together would still come first.
My Train Travel in Morocco guide explains the wider rail network and general ticket advice.
Luggage and Comfort on Al Boraq
Al Boraq has air-conditioned carriages and electrical sockets in both classes. ONCF describes overhead luggage storage and larger-bag areas at the ends and middle of the carriages.
Keep large suitcases in the designated spaces and keep aisles clear. Pack bags you can lift yourself; I would keep my passport, phone and money in a smaller bag with me. Check your larger bags before getting off.
ONCF’s published ticket conditions, dated April 2023, state maximum hand-luggage dimensions of 120 × 60 × 40 cm and require passengers to carry and store their bags safely themselves. Check for updated conditions before travel, particularly for oversized equipment.
Those conditions also describe folded pushchairs and certain bagged folding bicycles or sports equipment. Do not treat an airline baggage allowance as permission to bring any item onto the train; confirm unusual luggage with ONCF before buying.
ONCF advertises food and drinks on board. I would still bring water and a small snack, especially with children or dietary requirements. A particular menu item is not guaranteed on your departure.
Download your ticket and accommodation details beforehand. Free station or lounge Wi-Fi does not guarantee a reliable connection throughout the journey; I would not make an important task depend on onboard internet.
Casablanca Airport to Tangier
If you land at Mohammed V Airport, your rail journey normally has two stages: the airport train to Casa Voyageurs, then Al Boraq to Tanger Ville.
Search your airport departure through ONCF and follow the connection it shows. Allow for immigration, baggage collection, waiting for the airport train and finding the next platform.
The airport station may appear as Aéroport Med V or MED V Airport. For Tangier, change at Casa Voyageurs, rather than staying on to Casa-Port. Check the live itinerary for your date on ONCF Voyages.
The change to Al Boraq is a change of train at Casa Voyageurs. Read the departure board for your onward service and allow time to move between platforms with your bags. Keep the airport-train and Al Boraq ticket details available; check that your purchase covers both stages.
The complete journey takes longer than the two-hour city-to-city train ride. I would avoid an inflexible Al Boraq booking immediately after the scheduled landing time.
Before choosing a same-day connection, work through the stages: landing, immigration and bags, waiting for the airport train, reaching Casa Voyageurs, changing trains and traveling to Tangier. A short-looking connection can disappear before you have left the airport.
For a late arrival, check whether an onward train remains practical. An overnight stay in Casablanca can be a more comfortable decision than forcing a long journey after a tiring flight.
My Casablanca Airport to City Centre guide covers the airport arrival stage. If you decide to stay overnight, compare areas in Where to Stay in Casablanca.
Arriving at Tanger Ville

Al Boraq arrives at Tanger Ville, the city railway station. You still need to reach your hotel, and a medina riad may require a final walk from the nearest vehicle access point.
Save the address and ask your accommodation which entrance or meeting point to use. With children, heavy luggage or a late arrival, ask whether a pickup can be arranged.
Before taking a taxi, confirm the destination and how the fare will be charged. Keep some small dirham notes available for local transport.
Tanger Ville is the city railway station. Tanger Med port, Tanger Ville port and Tangier Airport are different arrival or departure points. If you have a ferry, read the port name on the ferry ticket; do not assume the train delivers you to the correct terminal. Plan the road transfer and the operator’s check-in time separately.
For choosing accommodation around your arrival, use my Where to Stay in Tangier guide.
Staying overnight? Compare the location, recent reviews and cancellation terms before choosing your hotel. Compare Tangier hotels for your dates.
If you are continuing straight to Chefchaouen, plan the road leg separately. Arriving at Tanger Ville does not complete that journey, and I would check the onward departure before committing to the Casablanca train.
Casablanca to Tangier by Bus
CTM is an alternative when its departure time or total fare suits your plans better. Expect a much longer journey than Al Boraq, broadly around five to six hours, with some services taking longer.
Check CTM’s booking website for your direction and date. Confirm the exact Casablanca departure point and Tangier arrival point before buying.
Include transport to both terminals and any luggage charges in your comparison. I would not automatically call the bus the cheapest option without looking at the available train fare as well.
For a short Morocco trip, the extra travel time matters. Take the bus when the actual saving or timetable makes it worthwhile for you.
Casablanca to Tangier by Car or Private Transfer
The road journey is roughly 340 km, depending on your starting and finishing addresses. Allow about 3.5 to 4.5 hours without sightseeing, and more for traffic, breaks or detours.
A rental car makes more sense if you will use it beyond this transfer. Compare the rental price with fuel, tolls, parking and a possible one-way drop-off charge.
You can also travel to Tangier by train and collect a car there for the next part of your trip. Confirm the collection location and opening hours before booking.
My Rent a Car in Morocco guide covers insurance, deposits and the practical costs. For motorway tolls, consult Autoroutes du Maroc.
A private transfer is useful when you prefer one vehicle from your hotel or airport to your accommodation. Ask for the total vehicle price, luggage capacity, child seats if needed, waiting policy and whether fuel and tolls are included.
If you add a visit in Rabat or Asilah, agree on that before booking and allow extra time. A transfer with sightseeing becomes a different travel day from a nonstop journey.
If you prefer visiting Rabat by train, search Casa Voyageurs to Rabat Agdal and then Rabat Agdal to Tanger Ville as separate journey legs. Check ticket conditions before planning a stopover on a through ticket.
Should You Fly From Casablanca to Tangier?
Royal Air Maroc lists the Casablanca–Tangier route, but check availability for your dates directly with the airline.
For travelers already in Casablanca city, I would normally compare Al Boraq first. Reaching the airport, checking in, flying and transferring into Tangier can remove the advantage of a short flight.
A flight may make sense as part of an international itinerary through Casablanca. Compare the full connection, baggage arrangements and ticket conditions before deciding.
Can You Visit Tangier as a Day Trip From Casablanca?

Yes, the high-speed train makes a day trip possible. But two train journeys mean more than four hours on board, before station transfers and sightseeing.
I would keep the visit focused: explore the Medina and Kasbah, enjoy lunch and leave enough time to return to the station. Adding several out-of-city stops makes the day more rushed.
For a calmer visit, stay overnight. My Tangier Travel Guide helps you plan your time, while the Northern Morocco Travel Guide explains how Tangier fits with other destinations.
Tangier to Casablanca: The Return Journey
For the reverse journey, search from Tanger Ville to Casa Voyageurs. Check the return timetable and fare separately.
If you have a flight from Mohammed V Airport, include the onward airport connection and your airline’s check-in requirements. Arriving at Casa Voyageurs is not the same as arriving at the airport terminal.
I would leave a generous margin or consider a Casablanca overnight stay before an important international departure.
Casablanca to Tangier FAQs
Is there a direct bullet train from Casablanca to Tangier?
Yes. Al Boraq connects Casa Voyageurs with Tanger Ville without a train change on the city-to-city journey.
How long is the Casablanca to Tangier train?
Allow about two hours and ten to twenty minutes on Al Boraq. Confirm the scheduled time for your chosen departure and add station transfers.
How much does the Casablanca to Tangier train cost?
There is no single fixed fare for every departure. ONCF advertises limited YALLA offers at 89 MAD in second class and 129 MAD in first class, but availability and conditions apply. Check Casa Voyageurs to Tanger Ville on ONCF Voyages for your actual price.
Does Al Boraq leave from Casa-Port?
Use Casa Voyageurs for the direct Al Boraq train to Tangier. Casa-Port is a different station.
Is there a direct Al Boraq train from Casablanca Airport?
The airport service is a separate train. The usual journey involves changing at Casa Voyageurs for Al Boraq to Tanger Ville.
Is the bus cheaper than the train?
It can be, but compare current fares and terminal transfers. The bus takes considerably longer, so a small saving may not be worth the extra travel time.
How far is Casablanca from Tangier by road?
Roughly 340 km, depending on the addresses and route. Allow extra driving time for traffic and sightseeing stops.
Is Tangier worth staying overnight?
I would stay overnight if your itinerary allows it. You get more time to enjoy the city and avoid fitting sightseeing between two long train journeys.
My Advice for This Journey
Take Al Boraq when your plan is simply Casablanca to Tangier. Choose the departure first, arrange your station transfers and keep the ticket available offline.
Choose road transport when you want stops along the way or need a vehicle for the next part of your trip. If you are landing at Casablanca Airport, give the connection enough room to absorb a delay.
If you are staying in Casablanca before traveling north, my Casablanca Travel Guide will help you plan that stop. For the complete route through the country, continue with my Morocco Travel Guide.
