Casablanca Airport to Marrakech: Train, Taxi & Private Transfer
Casablanca Airport to Marrakech is one of the most common first journeys for travelers arriving in Morocco, especially visitors flying into Mohammed V International Airport from the United States or Canada.
The cheapest practical option is the train, but there is no direct train from the airport to Marrakech. You normally take the airport train to Casa Oasis and change there for Marrakech. A private transfer or official airport taxi is faster and easier with children, heavy luggage or a late arrival.
I’m Kamal, a nationally licensed Moroccan tour guide based in Marrakech. I have been guiding travelers around Morocco since 2006, and many of the trips I help with begin at Casablanca Airport before continuing south to Marrakech. This guide explains the journey from the airport terminal all the way to your Marrakech hotel or riad—not only the time shown on a train or transfer website.
If you are staying in Casablanca first, use my Casablanca Airport to city centre guide instead. This page is specifically for travelers going directly from CMN Airport to Marrakech.

Casablanca Airport to Marrakech: Quick Answer
For one person or a couple traveling light during the day, the train is usually the best value. Take the airport train from Terminal 1 to Casa Oasis, then change to an ONCF train for Marrakech. Allow roughly 3.5 to 4.5 hours from the airport terminal to Marrakech station, depending on the connection, plus the final ride to your accommodation.
For families, groups, travelers with several suitcases or anyone landing late, a pre-booked private transfer is usually the easiest choice. It takes around 2.5 to 3.5 hours in normal conditions and takes you directly to your hotel or the nearest accessible point to your riad.
An official airport taxi can also make the full journey, but confirm the posted fare at the airport taxi desk before loading your luggage. Renting a car makes sense only if Marrakech is the beginning of a wider road trip.
Casablanca Airport to Marrakech Transport at a Glance
| Option | Typical travel time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Train via Casa Oasis | About 3.5–4.5 hours; usually the cheapest | Solo travelers, couples and light luggage |
| Private transfer | About 2.5–3.5 hours; price varies by vehicle and date | Families, groups, late arrivals and door-to-door comfort |
| Official airport taxi | About 2.5–3.5 hours; confirm the posted fare | Travelers who want to leave immediately without pre-booking |
| Rental car | About 2.5–3.5 hours plus collection time | Travelers continuing on a Moroccan road trip |
| Bus combination | Usually 5 hours or longer with changes | Budget travelers who cannot use a suitable train |
Times are realistic planning ranges, not guarantees. Immigration, baggage collection, train connections, Casablanca traffic and the location of your Marrakech accommodation can all change the total journey.
How Far Is Casablanca Airport From Marrakech?
Mohammed V International Airport, whose airport code is CMN, is roughly 220 to 240 kilometers from Marrakech by road, depending on the route and your final address.
A direct car journey normally takes around three hours. It can take longer during busy periods around Casablanca, road works, poor weather or heavy traffic when entering Marrakech.
The train journey looks longer because the airport is on a regional rail branch. You must first travel toward Casablanca, change trains, and then continue south to Marrakech.
Is There a Direct Train From Casablanca Airport to Marrakech?
No. There is no single direct train from Casablanca Airport to Marrakech.
The airport railway station is below Terminal 1. Airport trains run into the Casablanca rail network and serve stations including L’Oasis, Casa-Voyageurs and Casa-Port. To reach Marrakech, you must change to an intercity ONCF train.
For most journeys from the airport, Casa Oasis is the most logical change because it is south of Casa-Voyageurs and is also served by trains heading toward Marrakech. Going farther into Casablanca to Casa-Voyageurs can add unnecessary distance.
However, railway schedules and stopping patterns can change. Search the complete trip from Aéroport Med V to Marrakech on the official ONCF Voyages website and follow the interchange printed on your itinerary. If ONCF routes your specific journey through another station, use the station shown on the ticket.
Taking the Train From Casablanca Airport to Marrakech

The train is my recommendation for most solo travelers and couples who arrive during operating hours, carry manageable luggage and do not mind one change.
The important point is to plan the full journey rather than treating it as a direct airport train.
Step 1: Find the Airport Train Station
The railway station is in the basement of Terminal 1 and connects directly with the airport concourse. Follow the train signs after leaving the arrivals area.
If your flight arrives at another terminal, follow the airport directions to Terminal 1. Do not take a taxi into Casablanca simply to find a train station unless rail service has ended or your itinerary specifically requires it.
Step 2: Buy the Complete Journey
Search for Aéroport Med V to Marrakech through ONCF. Buying or checking the complete route makes the required change clearer than purchasing only the airport segment. For another comparison, you can check selected train options on 12Go. Confirm whether the itinerary includes the airport train or only the Casablanca–Marrakech segment, and verify the connection and final fare with ONCF before booking.
The airport authority currently publishes a fare of 50 MAD in second class and 70 MAD in first class for the airport service into Casablanca. The Marrakech portion uses ONCF’s intercity fare system, and prices can vary with class, train and booking conditions.
For planning, allow roughly 100 to 280 MAD per adult for the combined rail journey, depending on the available fare and class, then check the exact live price for your date. Do not rely on an old screenshot or a fixed price copied from another blog.
If your international bank card does not work online, try the ONCF app or buy at the airport station. Leave enough time to reach the platform without rushing.
Step 3: Change at Casa Oasis
Casa Oasis is normally the simplest interchange for Marrakech. The airport train reaches Oasis before it continues farther into central Casablanca.
At Casa Oasis, check the departure board and platform for the Marrakech train. Ask an ONCF employee if anything is unclear; do not assume that every train on the same platform is going south.
Keep your ticket available for inspection and pay attention to the train number, not only the departure time. Schedule changes and delays are possible.
Step 4: Continue to Marrakech Station
The intercity journey from the Casablanca area to Marrakech generally takes around three hours. First class provides reserved seating and is often worth considering after a long flight, especially during busy travel periods.
Second class is the less expensive choice and is perfectly usable, but it can feel busier. Keep your smaller valuables with you and place larger luggage where you can monitor it.
For a complete explanation of Moroccan tickets, classes and stations, read my Train Travel in Morocco guide.
Step 5: Travel From Marrakech Station to Your Accommodation
Marrakech railway station is in Gueliz, outside the Medina. It is not within easy walking distance of most riads around Jemaa el-Fna.
From the station, use an official taxi, a pre-arranged pickup or your accommodation’s confirmed transfer. Ask the riad for the closest vehicle-accessible meeting point because cars cannot reach many Medina lanes.
Save the riad’s telephone number and map pin before leaving Casablanca. “Marrakech Medina” is not a precise drop-off address.
How Long Does the Train Really Take?
Online route summaries often count only the time spent moving. Travelers need to count the entire journey:
- Walking from arrivals to the station
- Waiting for the airport train
- Traveling to Casa Oasis
- Waiting for the Marrakech connection
- The intercity train to Marrakech
- A taxi or pickup from Marrakech station
With a smooth connection, allow about 3.5 to 4.5 hours from the moment you leave the airport terminal to your arrival at Marrakech station. Reaching a Medina riad may add another 20 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic and its access point.
Do not book a Marrakech dinner, tour or hammam too close to your scheduled landing time.
How Much Buffer Should You Leave After Your Flight?
Do not buy a tight, inflexible train connection based only on the flight’s scheduled landing time.
For an international arrival, I would normally leave at least two to three hours between the scheduled landing and any intercity train you cannot easily change. Immigration, baggage delivery, passport control and flight delays are unpredictable.
If you buy a flexible fare or a complete ONCF itinerary with a comfortable connection, the train becomes less stressful. If missing the last useful train would leave you stranded, arrange a backup transfer or stay one night in Casablanca.
When the Train Is the Best Choice
Choose the train when:
- You are traveling alone or as a couple
- You arrive during the day
- Your luggage is easy to manage
- Saving money matters more than door-to-door convenience
- You are comfortable changing trains
- Your accommodation is in Gueliz or can arrange a pickup from Marrakech station
The train is not automatically the best choice for a group. Once three or four travelers buy rail tickets and pay for the final taxi, a private transfer becomes more competitive and much simpler.
Private Transfer From Casablanca Airport to Marrakech

A private transfer is the easiest door-to-door option. The driver normally meets you outside arrivals, monitors your flight and takes you directly toward your Marrakech hotel or riad.
The road journey usually takes around 2.5 to 3.5 hours. A break can be requested, which is useful after a long overnight flight.
Current online listings commonly fall around 1,200 to 1,800 MAD per vehicle, although prices vary by date, group size, vehicle category and cancellation policy. Check the live total before booking rather than treating any guide price as guaranteed.
Prefer a confirmed driver waiting when you land?
Compare private transfers from Casablanca Airport to Marrakech for your travel date.
What to Check Before Booking
Confirm all of the following:
- The price is for the whole vehicle, not per passenger
- Flight monitoring and reasonable delay waiting time are included
- The luggage allowance fits your group
- A child seat is available if required
- Tolls and fuel are included
- The driver has your correct flight number
- The Marrakech drop-off location is clearly agreed
- The booking has a written cancellation policy
Some Marrakech riads are inside pedestrian lanes. “Door to door” may mean the nearest point a vehicle can legally reach. Ask the riad to coordinate with the driver if the access point is difficult to find.
Taking an Official Taxi From Casablanca Airport to Marrakech
Official airport taxis operate from the arrivals esplanade. The airport authority says they are identified by their signs and numbers and that a reception desk displays fares. The service operates 24 hours a day.
Ask the taxi desk for the current Marrakech fare and confirm the full amount before your luggage is loaded. Clarify whether tolls, luggage, nighttime travel and the final Marrakech address are included.
A direct airport taxi may cost roughly 1,200 to 1,800 MAD, but this is only a planning range. The posted airport fare and the amount confirmed at the official desk should guide your decision.
Use the designated taxi rank. Do not follow an unsolicited driver inside the terminal or accept an unclear verbal price.
Taxi or Private Transfer?
Choose an official taxi when you have not booked ahead and want to leave immediately.
Choose a private transfer when you want a named driver, flight monitoring, a confirmed vehicle size, child-seat arrangements and a written fixed price before flying.
The road and expected travel time are similar. The difference is mainly booking certainty, vehicle standard and what is included.
Can You Take a Bus From Casablanca Airport to Marrakech?
There is no direct public bus from Casablanca Airport to Marrakech.
A bus journey normally requires taking the Casablanca AEROBUS from Mohammed V Airport to Casa-Port, then reaching the correct CTM or Supratours departure point and continuing to Marrakech. CasaBus currently lists the airport-to-Casa-Port fare at 50 MAD, but check the live schedule before traveling. The complete journey can take five hours or longer.
This combination may save money when train timings do not work, but the extra transfers make it less attractive with luggage. Before choosing it, compare the total price and travel time with the train.
Do not assume that the AEROBUS arriving at Casa-Port will leave you beside the intercity bus station you need.

Renting a Car at Casablanca Airport
Renting a car can work well if Marrakech is only the first stop on a wider itinerary through the Atlas Mountains, Essaouira, Ouarzazate or the Sahara route.
It is rarely worth renting a car only to drive to Marrakech and park it for several days. Central Marrakech traffic can be stressful, and cars cannot enter much of the Medina.
Before accepting a rental, check the security deposit, insurance excess, fuel policy, mileage allowance, toll payment, after-hours charges and the exact return location. Photograph every side of the vehicle before leaving.
The main motorway is straightforward, but stay rested, observe speed limits and avoid driving immediately after a long flight if you feel tired. Autoroutes du Maroc operates toll roads and publishes current traffic and toll information.
Compare the insurance details—not only the headline daily rate—in my Rent a Car in Morocco guide.
Which Option Should You Choose?
| Your situation | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Solo traveler arriving during the day | Train | Lowest practical cost |
| Couple with light luggage | Train or transfer | Compare comfort against the live total price |
| Family with children | Private transfer | Easier with luggage and child-seat planning |
| Three or more adults | Private transfer | Per-person cost becomes more competitive |
| Late-night arrival | Transfer or official taxi | Rail may have ended by the time you leave arrivals |
| Traveler with limited mobility | Pre-arranged transfer | Fewer platforms, steps and luggage movements |
| Wider Moroccan road trip | Rental car | Useful after Marrakech as well as for the airport journey |
What If Your Flight Arrives Late?

Check the time you will realistically leave arrivals—not only the scheduled landing time.
The airport train operates from early morning until late evening, but timetables can change. A flight landing near the final service can easily miss it after immigration and baggage collection.
For a late arrival, the safest choices are:
- Pre-book a transfer with flight-delay monitoring
- Use the official 24-hour airport taxi desk
- Sleep near Casablanca Airport and continue the next morning
An airport hotel can be smarter than paying for a late-night long-distance ride when you are exhausted, especially if you are traveling alone or with children.
Should You Stop in Casablanca First?
If you land before midday and have enough energy, continuing directly to Marrakech is reasonable.
If you arrive late, want to visit Hassan II Mosque or have had a long overnight flight, spend one night in Casablanca and travel the next morning. This removes the pressure of a same-day rail connection and lets you begin Marrakech rested.
Use my Where to Stay in Casablanca guide to choose between an airport hotel, Casa-Voyageurs and the city centre. For a short night before continuing south, compare the total cost of the room and transfers, check late check-in and confirm any airport shuttle directly with the hotel.
If you stay in central Casablanca, plan the first leg with my Casablanca Airport to City Centre guide. Before continuing, use Where to Stay in Marrakech to choose your next base and confirm the final pickup or drop-off point with your accommodation.
Practical Tips From a Moroccan Guide
Before leaving the terminal, have your hotel address saved offline and a way to contact your driver or accommodation. My Best eSIM for Morocco guide covers data before arrival, while Money in Morocco explains cash, cards and payments for your first day.
- Download your ticket, accommodation address and map before leaving the airport Wi-Fi.
- Keep some Moroccan dirhams for small expenses and the taxi from Marrakech station.
- Write down Casa Oasis, Casa-Voyageurs and Marrakech so you can show staff exactly what you mean.
- Never describe your destination only as “the main station.” Casablanca has several railway stations.
- Keep medication, passports, money and electronics in your hand luggage.
- Ask your Marrakech riad for the closest vehicle-accessible gate or square.
- If you arrive during Ramadan, Eid or a major holiday, allow more time and check schedules again.
- Check ONCF on the day before travel for operational changes.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The first mistake is assuming there is a direct Casablanca Airport to Marrakech train. You need a connection.
The second is automatically traveling to Casa-Voyageurs when Casa Oasis is normally the shorter change for trains heading south. Follow the interchange shown by ONCF for your specific departure.
The third is comparing only ticket prices. Add the final taxi, waiting time, luggage effort and number of travelers.
The fourth is booking a tight train immediately after an international flight.
The fifth is accepting an unofficial airport ride without a confirmed total price.
The sixth is expecting a vehicle to stop outside a riad hidden inside the Medina.
My Honest Recommendation
For one person or a couple arriving during the day with light luggage, take the train and normally change at Casa Oasis. It is affordable, reasonably comfortable and avoids a long road transfer after your flight.
For a family, group, late arrival or anyone carrying several bags, book a private transfer. The direct journey removes the train change and the second ride from Marrakech station to your accommodation.
Use an official airport taxi when you want to leave immediately without a reservation, but verify the posted fare first. Rent a car only when it will be useful beyond this single journey.
The best Casablanca Airport to Marrakech option is not always the cheapest one. Choose the transport that fits your landing time, luggage, group size and final address.
